In 2003 we made a slight change in the can cutter to work better with the new Champion "-1" oil filters

If you purchased a oil filter can cutter before 2003 you can easily
make the change by installing a 5/16 inch flat washer under each roller guide. We use 2 each aircraft AN960-516 washers but any 5/16 flat washer will work fine.

When Champion re-designed their oil filters they slightly increased the distance from the gasket to the seam. This changed the cutter position so that the cutter blade did not cut the filter as easily. A flat washer under each roller guide compensates for the increased distance.

By installing the washer your oil filter cutter works just as well on the older and newer style oil filters. All can cutters sold after 2003 have the washer already installed.
